FOCUS
Niger State, like most other states in Nigeria, is experiencing continuing urbanisation. Although the State is still predominantly rural, it is also experiencing a rapid urban transition. In 1976 when Niger State was created, it was made up of mainly dispersed agrarian settlements. As of 1979, only four settlements, namely Minna, Bida, Kontagora and Suleja, were classified as urban centres, each of which now has a population of at least 150,000 persons.
COMMENTS
The NUP for Nigeria was first developed in 1992 which implementation was not successful and it was reviewed in 2012.

Nigeria NUP does address a spatial coherent territory that includes a balanced system for human settlement. Cities and towns along the urban, periurban and rural continum is also focussed in the Nigeria NUP.
