The NUP focuses on boosting the country’s prosperity and reducing poverty. One of its main objectives is to raise the level of urbanization to 35% by 2020.

COMMENTS
With the support of UN-Habitat, Rwanda’s explicit NUP was approved in December of 2015.

The National Urban Policies for Rwanda, does respond to the population dynamics as an SDG11.a.1 qualifier. Rwanda NUP does focus on demographic trends and needs in their Implementation phase.

Rwanda NUP does address a spatial coherent territory that includes a balanced system for human settlement. Cities and towns along the urban, periurban and rural continum is also focussed in the Rwanda NUP.
