The policy is focuses on addressing current urbanization challenges such as: balanced development, urban governanve, enviromental quality of urban life, effective urban planning and management to address urban sprawl, efficient urban infrastcruture, safety and secuitry in urban areas, and competitiveness. The policy also focuses on providing open public spaces, promotion of cultural tourism and heritage, as well as urban renewal and it promoting healthy and safe urban environments
COMMENTS
The NUP is explicit and was developed with assistance from UN-Habitat. The policy was approved in June of 2017.

The National Urban Policies for Uganda, does not respond to the population dynamics as an SDG11.a.1 qualifier. Uganda NUP does not focus on demographic trends and needs in their Formulation phase.

Uganda NUP does not address a spatial coherent territory that includes a balanced system for human settlement. Cities and towns along the urban, periurban and rural continum is also focussed in the Uganda NUP.
